Together for Better Care of People Living with Cystic Fibrosis

On October 17, 2025, members of the Association “Defeating Cystic Fibrosis” participated in an important informational meeting dedicated to the care and treatment of patients with cystic fibrosis (mucoviscidosis).
The event brought together family doctors, pediatric and pulmonology specialists, researchers, and representatives of the patient community.
The meeting was organized by the Mother and Child Institute, with the active participation of:
- Mr. Sergiu Gladun, Associate Professor, PhD in Medical Sciences, Director of the Mother and Child Institute;
- Prof. Ina Palii, PhD, Vice-Director, Head of the Pediatrics and Cardiology Clinic;
- Prof. Svetlana Șciuca, PhD, Head of the Pneumology Clinic, Department of Pediatrics, “Nicolae Testemițanu” State University of Medicine and Pharmacy;
- Assoc. Prof. Natalia Barbova, PhD, Research Coordinator, Laboratory of Hereditary Disease Prevention, Center for Reproductive Health and Medical Genetics;
- Cristina Tomacinschi, PhD student, Department of Pediatrics, “Nicolae Testemițanu” University, Coordinator of the Cystic Fibrosis Medical Center;
- Assoc. Prof. Rodica Selevestru, PhD;
- Corina Conica, PhD student, Department of Pediatrics.
The main guest of the event was Prof. Dr. Lutz Nährlich, Director of the Pharmacoepidemiologic Study within the European Cystic Fibrosis Patient Registry, Justus Liebig University Giessen, Department of Pediatrics, Germany.
Professor Nährlich shared valuable European experience regarding patient monitoring, modern treatment approaches, and the importance of continuous data recording in national and European cystic fibrosis registries.
During the meeting, participants discussed the need for a multidisciplinary approach to cystic fibrosis care, as well as the importance of collaboration between specialists, families, and patient organizations.
The Role of the Association “Defeating Cystic Fibrosis”
The Association “Defeating Cystic Fibrosis” is a non-governmental organization founded by parents and patients, whose mission is to support people affected by cystic fibrosis in the Republic of Moldova.
The Association promotes:
- access for patients to modern treatments and quality healthcare services;
- education and awareness among families;
- collaboration with medical institutions and health authorities;
- and involvement of the community and international partners to improve patients’ quality of life.
By participating in events and maintaining continuous dialogue with medical professionals, the Association remains the voice of patients and an active partner in developing a stronger care system for cystic fibrosis in the Republic of Moldova.
